The 1933 Century of Progress celebration at the Chicago World's Fair came to a screeching hault with the Great Depression where stock markets crashed, bankers lost all, and speculating on 'margin' would cause investors to literally jump out of windows! What was to be a souvenier of the accomplishments during the last 100 years, the metal band stating such has a virtical crack all the way through it! Prosperity was broken! The commorative spoon reminds us of the "soup kitchens" that arrose during the depression, as hungry, displaced people were left with nothing!
