Overview LTO7 SAS=6GB interface
FULL SPEED SAS2=6GB interface
Ultrium7 Tape Drives represent 7-generations of LTO7 technology capable of storing up to 15TB per cartridge, with for manageability, hardware data encryption, Open with LTFS for ease of use at an unprecedented performance. With LTO7 customers can be confident that their data is safe by monitoring drive and media utilization, operational performance and life/health information for drive and media. Data hardware encryption using AES 256-bit provides easy-to-enable security to protect the most sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access of tape cartridges. Linear Tape File System (LTFS) is an open format for storing data on tape that makes LTO-7 and tapes self-describing and file-based. Capable of FAST data transfer rates
exclusive Data Rate Matching further optimizes performance by matching host system SAS2- 6GB speed to keep drives streaming, thus enabling the fastest SAS2 performance.
The Linear Tape File System ( LTFS) is a free open source software application FOR WIN/MAC/UNIX which provides a self-describing tape format based on the LTFS specification is best used for 4K video storage and 4k video data archiving
LTFS provides users with the ability to access files on an
LTO-6
and
LTO-7
tape using the same commands and operations as that of a
disk drive
. With LTFS, users can share content across heterogeneous systems without the need for separate application software to read or write data to tape. Because LTFS is an file system and open source, users can be sure that their data is accessible without the need for any proprietary software, making it particularly suited for long-term data archive

Delivering scalability and growth for generations.
First introduced in 2000, LTO technology is currently in its 7
th
generation. LTO-7 specifications support tape cartridge storage compressed capacity of up to 15TB*, more than twice that compressed capacity over the previous generation, and tape drive data transfer rates of up to 750MB* per second for over 2.7 terabytes of storage performance an hour per drive. New generations have been introduced regularly with higher capacity and transfer rates along with new features to further protect your data and content. LTO specifications provide backwards compatibility to read/write with previous generations. Current-generation LTO drives are able to read tapes from two generations prior and are able to write to tapes from the prior generation, so you know that your investment is for the long run.
*Assuming a 2.5:1 compression achieved with larger compression history buffer available beginning with LTO generation 6 drives.
