    Description

A lovely dance fan with a delicate beaded double curve design by Brian Gallipeau, Penobscot.  Fan is of wild turkey feathers of brown, black and copper are atop the fan in 3 tiers; bottom tier next to handle is of soft downy feathers, mid tier is shorter feathers- brown/black then white tipped, top tier is longer feathers, black/brown with white tips.
A Wabanaki traditional design is beaded onto the leather wrapped handle.  The double curve design is of green beads and the trifoliate design at center is of mauve and yellow beads.  This is set into an oval of light blue beads.  The design is delicate and lovely.  The leather wrapping the handle is so very very soft ... deer leather.  The back leather is "sewn" together with a leather strip X lacing - fringed on the bottom.
Wabanaki Confederacy- 5 Northeastern tribes residing in Maine, Vermont and Eastern Canada:  The Abenaki, Maliseet, MicMac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot
The fan is over all length of 16" - feathers are 8" long, handle 5" and fringe".  Width at top of fan handle is 2.25".  There is a loop of the leather strip that was used to sew back that is tied at bottom and this has 2 larger clear beads - making a loop to hang the fan should you want to use it as a decoration.
This would make a beautiful addition to your regalia or a lovely48. display piece.
