Description
This item is a souvenir medal (so-called dollar HK-467) from the1933-34 Chicago World's Fair - the Century of Progress Exposition, and it is known as the '1933 Greenduck Dollar.'
The obverse has a very high-relief (three-dimensional) image of a seated female figure holding a tiny log cabin in her left hand, with the modern Chicago skyline in the background (all superimposed on a spoked wheel), an Art Deco eagle at the top, and the words
CENTURY OF PROGRESS
along the rim. At the bottom is the mark of the manufacturer (Greenduck, Chicago).
The reverse side has a detailed aerial view of the Exposition grounds, with sailboats on Lake Michigan in the background, and also has the dates 1833 and 1933 (separated by an Art Deco eagle) and the word
CHICAGO
.
The diameter is approximately 37 mm (nearly 1-1/2"), and the composition is bronze.
This medal is in extremely fine condition, with very light actual wear, signs of handling, and toning, and it remains very bright, with a very good toned bronze color.
